Cormorants

Having watched these seabirds for years, I began drawing and painting them during 2010 and continue in 2011. It is necessary for them to dry their wings as they have no oil in their feathers and will drown otherwise. Hence, their familiar and frequent posture of holding up their wings. This posture brought up for me ideas of vulnerability, the need of waiting during times in life, courage and willingness. These birds, though awkward on land, are superb divers and swimmers.

The materials used are graphite and oil paints on prepared paper. Their sizes range from 8" x 10" to 45 x 72". Contact me for further information and prices of these and other pieces of this series.
